San Francisco Cable Car Museum The cable car was born in San Francisco at four o'clock in the morning on August 2, 1873, when Andrew Smith Hallidie successfully tested the world's first cable car. NASA Ames Research Center Ames was founded December 20, 1939 as an aircraft research laboratory by the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA) and in 1958 became part of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
